ecoegg’s guide to easy eco-swaps for a plastic-free household

Sadly plastic is everywhere and it's inevitable that until things change we can’t completely avoid it. Fortunately for us however, we were able to catch up with our friends in the know over at ecoegg to find out what small swaps can help us all reduce our plastic usage across the home!

Tell us about ecoegg!

Hi Teeam Dotte! We’re ecoegg! Originally the company began on a mission to find a washing product that was suitable for sensitive skin… so that’ how the Laundry Egg was originally born! Traditional detergents are so full of harmful chemicals, and we wanted to change. Our Laundry Egg uses no harmful chemicals, is non-biological and hypoallergenic!

Naturally, we wanted the Laundry Egg to be great for the planet too, so this also means no harmful chemicals heading into water ways. Plus, it is refillable and reusable (It comes with a ten year guarantee), saving tonnes of single use plastic bottles from heading into the environment.

What are ecoegg doing to overcome the plastic problem?

More than 300 million tonnes of plastic are produces each year, and half of this is single use! It’s crazy! We want more and more people to switch to the Laundry Egg and fight against plastic bottles in laundry (which are often not recyclable and single use!). Our ecoegg Laundry Egg helps people to dramatically reduce plastic in their laundry routine, and can save each household up to 40 single use plastic bottles per year meaning there is far less waste heading into landfill.

What's next for ecoegg, do you have anything exciting on the cards?

We’re always listening to our customers and looking to improve our products, but we’re also focussing heavily on new product development at the moment. We can’t say anything just yet but keep an eye out on our socials!

Unfortunately, plastic is everywhere and its inevitable that until things change, we can’t completely avoid it. Fortunately, every small swap makes a huge different and ultimately, will push retailers and manufacturers to change!

What can we do as families to reduce our plastic usage across the home?

Unfortunately, plastic is everywhere and it's inevitable that until things change, we can’t completely avoid it. Fortunately, every small swap makes a huge different and ultimately, will push retailers and manufacturers to change! Here are our top pieces of advice to help you reduce plastic:

  • Reuse everything you have – jam jars, plastic bags, spray bottles and take away containers. Think about what you’re binning or recycling, and see whether you can get more than a single use out of them. It will save you money and waste.
  • Take it step by step – Making plastic-free swaps can seem so overwhelming. Your best bet is to make these swaps one at a time, make them part of your regular routine, and you’ll stick with them forever that way.
  • Focus on the bathroom – There are so many swaps to make in the bathroom from plastic-free toilet roll, refillable deodorants, razor head subscriptions, soap and shampoo bars, plastic free dental care and reusable sanitary items.
  • Give everything a chance – sometimes it may take some time to get into a routine of using reusable items, but stick to it, they’ll become second nature in no time.
  • Look online and research – do online research for plastic free swaps. Many supermarkets and brick and mortar retailers don’t offer a huge selection of planet friendly alternatives, and a lot of new and innovative brands are launching online. So do some research and find out what options are available and which will suit you best!
  • Cost – Often refillable and plastic free alternatives can look costly in the first instance but think about the long run. In many cases making these changes  will actually save you a heap of money in the long run, especially after you make more and more changes.

And of course, make the switch to an ecoegg Laundry Egg! You can save loads of plastic and money, plus no more harmful chemicals too. Our friends at Ecoegg have set up a very special code for you! Use Dotte15 at checkout for 15% off your first order.
